What is “Mogging?”

  1. Think of “mogging” as one-upping someone in terms of physical appearance or overall attractiveness. A “mog” usually refers to a man who dominates other males in the room, often due to their height, body type, build, or facial structure.[1]
    • If someone says, “I’m mogging you,” it means they think that they’re better looking than you.
    • “Mogging” is part of the broader trend of “looksmaxxing,” or doing everything you can to enhance your appearance—via skincare, diet, exercise, getting a new haircut or clothes, etc.
  2. Traditionally, tallness, broad shoulders, and angular facial features are considered the most attractive physical traits in men.[2] So, most guys use these qualities to see if they’re “mogging” others (or “getting mogged” themselves). Common types of “mogging” include:
    • Heightmogging: When a man is significantly taller than another man beside him.
    • Jawmogging: When a man has a larger or more chiseled jawline than another man.
    • Chinmogging: When a man has a stronger or more defined chin than another man.
    • Hairmogging: This happens when a man has a full head of hair and he’s beside another man who’s balding.
    • Framemogging: When a man has a wider and more muscular frame than another man.
    • Agemogging: This happens when 2 guys are next to each other and one looks better than the other, either because they’re much younger or older.
    • Skullmogging: When a man has a more prominent, masculine, or aesthetically pleasing skull than another man.
    • Voicemogging: When a man has a deeper and more masculine voice than another man.
    • Fashionmogging: When a man is more stylish or put together than another man.
    • Brutal Mogging: A brutal mog occurs when two people are standing beside each other and one looks better in multiple categories.
    • Fogging: This term refers to “mogging” when the “mogger” is female.

Origin & Spread

  1. The slang term was originally coined by the pickup artist community, who encouraged mogging as a way to attract women. It gained popularity in the “manosphere” in the late 2010s, especially among members of fitness forums and incel subreddits.[3]
  2. “Mogging” skyrocketed in popularity when users started posting funny memes on Instagram, Twitter, and iFunny. Most of the memes feature images of bodybuilders, along with captions about mogging everyone else in the gym.[4]
  3. Many users began sharing slideshows of celebrities that they think “mog” everyone they’re photographed with. For example, one viral video features photos and video clips of model Jordan Barrett, claiming he’s the definition of an “alpha male” or the most dominant guy in the room.[5]
    • Some users post videos of themselves “mogging” everyone at work or school, while others poke fun at the trend by explaining what “mogging” means with the striking face effect over their videos.

How to Overcome Mogging

  1. Cleaning up your diet can improve your skin, energy levels, and overall health, increasing your physical attractiveness. Cut out as many processed foods as possible, and stick to a whole-foods diet of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean protein.[6]
  2. Make sure your room is completely dark, and invest in comfortable pillows, sheets, and a good mattress. Avoid looking at your phone at least one hour before bedtime, and if possible, establish a regular sleep schedule to ensure you get enough shut eye.[7]
  3. If you want to bulk up, lift weights and incorporate resistance training exercises, such as squats, push-ups, chin-ups.[8] Work with a personal trainer if you’re new to the gym and want more individual attention, or get help from someone you know who works out regularly.
    • Alternatively, perform any type of moderate exercise for at least 30 minutes per day, such as jogging, biking, swimming, mowing your lawn, or playing a sport.[9]
  4. Maintain good posture when you’re walking by keeping your back straight, rolling your shoulders back, and tilting your chin upward. When sitting, straighten your back, keep your shoulders back, and face straight ahead.
    • Check your posture by looking in a mirror or taking a video of yourself.
  5. Use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t contain alcohol, and gently massage it over your face and neck. Rinse with lukewarm water, then apply a hydrating moisturizer to replenish and protect your skin barrier. To minimize breakouts, wash your face as soon as possible after sweating.[10]
    • If you have acne, look for skincare products that are labeled “non-comedogenic” or “oil-free,” and avoid touching your face and popping pimples.[11]
  6. Brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes at a time, and floss at least once a day to remove food particles that are stuck and can cause cavities. Whiten your teeth with whitening strips or a pen, and use a tongue scraper to keep your breath fresh.

There is really nothing you can do to be shorter, but there is a lot you can do to be skinnier. You can try to eat healthier food and work out every day. Eating less will not help your situation and might slow down your progress. Daisy Keech has really good workouts on YouTube. If you are too tired or don’t have time to work out, that’s OK! If you just don’t feel like it, go for a brisk walk instead.
